Intake Covers & Exhaust Plugs for Challenger 601 & 604 Models
 

COVERS FOR CANADAIR CHALLENGER CL604

Tri-Fold Ring covers: an original design by Bruce's Custom Covers. In the hem of each cover there is a spring steel band. This helps the cover retain a round shape, and allows for much easier installation. The intake cover can be easily and quickly installed without reaching over the top of the nacelle. Each cover folds like a band saw blade, into three nesting rings, which can be quickly stowed in the duffle bag provided. When taken out of the bag, the covers immediately pop into shape, ready to install. Covers (not including CL601 exhaust plugs) are made of medium weight nylon, heavily backcoated with urethane finish. This material is water repellent as well as heat, stain, and weather resistant. It is available in a variety of colors to match the aircraft trim, and the N-number or company logo can be silkscreened onto the cover for an extra charge. Each cover comes with a duffle bag for convenient storage.

The CL600 intake cover fastens to the nacelle in 4 places. A plastic-coated steel hook attaches to the nacelle through a 1/4" hole on the outboard side. Two padded aluminum flat hooks at the bottom of the cover attach to the nacelle at the louvers on the nacelle underside. On the inboard side of the nacelle a 10-32 screw (located about 15" behind the leading edge of the support pylon and about 8" above the pylon surface) is removed and replaced with a small "T" cross section screw assembly. A padded aluminum strap attaches to this "T" screw through a "keyhole" cutout in the strap. All of the straps leading to these attach points are adjustable in length for a perfect fit. Made of medium weight nylon, available in a variety of colors, the covers are extremely heat resistant, abrasion resistant and water repellent. A small screen mesh opening is sewn into the middle of the cover to allow air to pass through. This prevents wind from ballooning the cover and blowing it off. The CL600 intake cover set weighs about 10 pounds.

CL600 Exhaust Plugs are installed on the inside of the exhaust pipe, and held in place by friction. Made of heat resistant materials, this is a round plug design that folds in half for easier storage. The two half-circular foam pieces inside the plug are accessible through zippers. Webbing handles are sewn onto the face of the plug for easy removal. A REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT streamer is attached to each plug. The exhaust plug pair weighs about 10 pounds.

CL601 Intake Covers fasten in 2 places. On both the inboard and outboard side the cover fastens with a strap and padded hook to the bypass vent at mid-nacelle. Made of medium weight nylon, the intake cover set weighs about 10 pounds. A small screen mesh opening is sewn into the middle of the cover to allow air to pass through. This prevents wind from ballooning the cover and blowing it off.

The CL601 Exhaust Plugs are sewn of heat resistant materials and stuffed with a single piece of heavy duty flexible foam. The front of the plugs are Naugahyde vinyl fabric, while the sides and back are made of extremely heat resistant Teflon-coated fiberglass. A zipper in the back of each plug allows the foam to be quickly removed for drying and servicing. The exhaust plug set weighs about 4 pounds.

These covers are designed to be installed quickly in the most difficult weather and working conditions by someone of average height standing on or behind the wing. Intake covers are designed to be used with or without exhaust covers installed. A streamer on the front of each cover acts as a safety warning, as well as to identify which side the cover fits on (LEFT FRONT, RIGHT FRONT).

Pitot Covers are made of heat resistant NaugahydeŞ vinyl. They slip on and are held in place with a bungee cord strap which goes around the icing indicator base. A "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" streamer is attached. (over) Tire Covers are made of CorduraŞ nylon and fasten around the main and nose gear tires with Velcro closures.

Non-burning Pitot Covers are designed to withstand more than 500 degrees F., preventing damage to the pitot tube if the pitot heat is turned on while it is covered.

Wingtip Static Wick Protectors are made of a length of flexible plastic tubing which slips over the two outboard static wicks. A "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" streamer is attached.

HeatShields are interior reflectors which are intended as temporary relief against heat buildup in the cockpit or cabin interior. The do keep the interior about as cool as exterior covers, but they can take longer to install and do nothing to protect the plexiglas or to prevent damage caused by leaks. Also, in aircraft equipped with laminated windshields, they may cause damage to those windshields because of excessive heat buildup near the glass.

Our HeatShield material is a special laminate of metallized polyester film, laminated to a thin sheet of closed-cell foam. It is thinner than bubble-pack type reflectors, and has extremely good reflective and insulating qualities.

Where an exterior cover is not considered practical by the operator, a HeatShield is often the best solution for cabin protection.
