F4 Phantom Canopy/Nose Cover

The Phantom F-4 Canopy/Nose Cover is designed to cover the cabin and nose areas. The cover attaches at two snap points. Snap-head screws are installed into existing screw holes in access panels aft of the canopy. The corresponding snaps on the cover are on adjustable length straps at the rear corners. The cover is pulled or fitted into place, then the snap-on straps are fitted for tightness and fit. There are additional belly straps to help hold the cover down, as well as tightening straps that attach to the intake scoop standoffs. There is also a zipper at the nose to help with installation and fit.

The Canopy/Nose covers are made of nylon Silver Laminate, a two-ply laminated fabric developed by Bruce's Custom Covers especially for aircraft protection. The outer material is a medium weight nylon treated for ultraviolet resistance and water repellency. The inner lining is brushed nylon tricot knit. This material is extremely reflective. Tests show that the cabin interior temperature can be reduced by as much as 25 degrees. Silver Laminate is water, ice and snow repellent, yet it is breathable enough to allow moisture to escape from between the cover and the windshield surface. Silver Laminate contains no hydrocarbon compounds which can harm plexiglass windshields and acrylic finishes.

HeatShields are interior reflectors which are intended as temporary relief against heat buildup in the cockpit or cabin interior. The do keep the interior about as cool as exterior covers, but they can take longer to install and do nothing to protect the plexiglas or to prevent damage caused by leaks. Also, in aircraft equipped with laminated windshields, they may cause damage to those windshields because of excessive heat buildup near the glass.

Our HeatShield material is a special laminate of metallized polyester film, laminated to a thin sheet of closed-cell foam. It is thinner than bubble-pack type reflectors, and has extremely good reflective and insulating qualities.

Where an exterior cover is not considered practical by the operator, a HeatShield is often the best solution for cabin protection.
