The Eurofighter Canopy Cover is an extremely tight-fitting design intended for maximum solar, dust, rain and ice protection. Made of Silver Laminate material, the Canopy Cover attaches with belly straps at the front and rear corners, and at the midpoint of the side hems. The Upper Surfaces Cover encloses the nose, canopy, upper fuselage, wings and horizontal stabilizer areas. It attaches with several straps running beneath the fuselage, and with additional straps running under the wing and horizontal stab. The cover has a soft lining from the canopy forward. The Canopy Cover is made of nylon Silver Laminate. Bruce's Custom Covers developed Silver Laminate especially for aircraft protection. The outer material is a medium weight nylon treated for ultraviolet resistance and anti-static buildup. The inner lining is brushed nylon tricot knit. Silver Laminate is extremely reflective. Tests show that the cabin interior temperature can be reduced by as much as 25 degrees. It is water, ice and snow repellent, yet it is breathable enough to allow moisture to escape from between the cover and the windshield surface. Silver Laminate contains no hydrocarbon compounds which can harm plexiglass windshields and acrylic finishes. The "Blackout" Canopy Cover is intended for use when testing night operations equipment during the day. The outer layer of this cover is white vinyl with a black "lightproof" pvc film laminated within it. The inner lining is black polyester satin. HeatShield Interior Reflectors are made of a special laminate of metallized polyester film and closed cell foam. Less than 1/8" thick, the reflector is stiff enough when flat to stand up against the canopy using the window framing only. HeatShields roll up and store in a sleeve, yet retain a memory to be flat whenever they are needed. The Engine Inlet Plug is made of durable vinyl material, form fit to completely secure the engine inlet aperture. A composite foam construction is stuffed through a zipper in the back of the plug. This foam is easily removable for periodic servicing of the plug. A "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" streamer is attached to one of the two webbing handles on the face of the plug. For easier storage, the engine inlet plug folds in half. A maintenance records pouch is sewn onto the face of the plug. The Engine Inlet Cover is intended to be used in the same way as the Inlet Plug, but it is more easily stored. Made of Cordura nylon, the cover fits snugly over the inlet cowling attaching on both sides with ball-lock pins. A maintenance records pouch is sewn onto the face of the cover. The Pitot Tube Cover, made of Naughahyde vinyl, is designed to cover the entire pitot assembly. Slipping on over the tube, the cover tightens around the base with a special Velcro strap detail. A warning streamer is attached to the cover. Non-burning Pitot Covers are designed to withstand more than 500 degrees F., preventing damage to the pitot tube if the pitot heat is turned on while it is covered. |
